HMR Price Increase

Stephen Carbonara
From an Independent Professional Pharmacist Perspective

Just a quick offering from me this month, as tax time has taken its toll.
And speaking of finances, Medicare has raised the rate of remuneration for HMRs to $187.09 (up from $183.60) at the start of this financial year.

This is an increase of 1.9%.
I'm not usually very economically minded, however I'm sure the consumer price index (or other measures of inflation) has risen by more than this over the past financial year.
I'm however sure that a logical and well devised formula exists to justify this figure.

I am however perplexed as to why it appears that a similar annual indexation formula has been overlooked for RMMR payments!
Even though the rate had increased from $100 to $130 at the start of 2006, surely the right of an annual indexation should be afforded to consultant pharmacists who provide RMMR services?

Stephen Carbonara.
